September is Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month!
Join the Children’s Sickle Cell Foundation in recognizing the month with the inaugural Living Well with Sickle Cell® Family Research Summit on
Friday, September 26, 9:30am - 3:30pm and 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Saturday, September 27, 9:30am-12:30pm
This 1.5 day educational summit is designed to engage families impacted by sickle cell disease, clinicians and researchers in meaningful dialogue about sickle cell disease research. The conference will feature patient- centered workshops, a moderated panel discussion and tours of the research facilities. Through these activities, we aim to build a culture of trust that we hope will help families to better understand the research process and inspire researchers.
Living Well with Sickle Cell® Family Research Summit activities will take place in the UPMC Starzl Biomedical Science Tower and the Rangos Research Center, both of which are located in Pittsburgh, PA.
There will be onsite tours of the Vascular Medicine Institute, where sickle cell researchers will give presentations right in the laboratory where Phase I sickle cell research takes place! Along with this, attendees will have the opportunity to learn the process of becoming involved in clinical and participatory research.
At the close of Saturday’s educational program attendees will join the Children’s Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. for an afternoon of exploring at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Transportation to and from the zoo will be provided.
